Nigeria’s D’Tigers understand the significance of their final Afrobasket 2025 qualifying game against Cape Verde.
Following back-to-back wins, the team sits third in Group B with 7 points and must secure a decisive victory today to guarantee a place in the finals in Angola.

D’Tigers’ guard, who played a key role in Nigeria’s dominant fourth-quarter surge during their 87-67 win over Uganda—contributing nine points off the bench—stressed that nothing short of a win will suffice.
“We have a tough challenge ahead against Cape Verde, a team that defeated us last time in Tunisia. However, our mindset remains unchanged. We are fully committed to executing our game plan and playing as a unit,”
“We’ll approach the game with focus, stay balanced emotionally, and fight to extend our winning streak and complete the tournament on a strong note.”
Beyond Nuga’s impact off the bench, D’Tigers will rely on key players such as captain Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, and Talib Zanna to deliver against Cape Verde, who remain top of the standings with 8 points despite their recent loss to Libya.
In Nigeria’s previous match, Nwamu contributed 18 points and 5 rebounds, while Agada led all scorers with 20 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
With Libya’s victory over Cape Verde shaking up Group B, the qualification race is wide open. The top three teams from each of the five qualifying groups will secure a spot in the finals set for August in Angola
