Team Osun Sets For Southwest Zonal Playoffs Ahead Of 2024 National Sports Festival

The Osun State contingent will depart Osogbo on Monday, February 24, 2025, for Ibadan, Oyo State, to participate in the Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs for team sports ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) – Gateway Games 2024.

Team Osun will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, and beach volleyball, facing off against teams from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti in a bid to secure qualification for the national event.

Leading the delegation is the General Manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr. Rotimi Dunmoye, alongside the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Football Matters, Hon. Kehinde Johnson; Director of Coaching and Training, Mr. Demola Daini; Mrs. Ronke Ajibola, and other key officials, secretaries, coaches, and team handlers.

Following intensive training sessions, the athletes have reaffirmed their dedication to delivering top performances and making Osun State proud.

The Southwest Zonal Elimination Playoffs, scheduled from February 23 to 28, 2025, will be held at two approved venues—Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, and Ilaji Sports Resort. The playoffs, happening simultaneously across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, will feature eight team sports: basketball, hockey, cricket, football, handball, volleyball, abula, and beach volleyball.

The Osun State Sports Council encourages sports enthusiasts and supporters to rally behind Team Osun with prayers and well wishes as they strive for excellence at the regional stage.
