Ogun State Government Pledges Support For School Sports To Discover Future Champions

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sports in schools as a strategy for discovering and nurturing young talents who can represent the state and Nigeria at national and international competitions.

The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, made this pledge during the 2025 Inter-House Sports competition, held as part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations of Remo Divisional High School (RDHS), Sagamu.

He emphasized that the government aims to produce new generations of exceptional athletes, following in the footsteps of stars like Falilat Ogunkoya and Tobi Amusan.

Hon. Isiaka highlighted the hosting of the National Sports Festival as a key step in developing sports from the grassroots level. He assured that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration would continue investing in modern sporting facilities to enhance skill development and excellence.

“Our goal is not only to identify promising talents but to harness their potential effectively,” Isiaka stated.

He also commended the Old Students Association for their contributions to education reform, aligning with the government’s “Adopt-a-School” initiative.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, an alumna of RDHS and Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, noted that the competition aimed to instill a spirit of sportsmanship in students, preparing them to be future ambassadors of excellence. She praised teachers for their dedication to shaping young minds and appreciated the Old Students Association for their continuous support.

In his welcome speech, RDHS President-General, Mr. Biodun Awosanya, reiterated the association’s commitment to grooming responsible future leaders through sports, complementing government efforts. Similarly, Board of Trustees member Mr. Mofopefoluwa Joseph acknowledged divine guidance in their initiatives and pledged to sustain student-centered programs for youth development.

The event concluded with the presentation of trophies, celebrating Pink House as the winner of the Inter-House Sports competition.
