The Ogun State House of Assembly has commended the State Government for its extensive preparations ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival, scheduled for May 2025.
This recognition follows significant investments in upgrading sports infrastructure at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto and the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta.
Members of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, led by Chairman Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the facilities alongside the State Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka, and his team.
The committee, which included Honourables Folawewo Salami, Wasiu Ayodele, Oyedele Adebisi, and Adegoke Adeyanju, praised the government’s commitment to delivering world-class sports facilities that align with international standards for the 22nd National Sports Festival.
Hon. Atobatele urged contractors to complete the projects on schedule while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Commissioner Wasiu Isiaka reaffirmed the government’s dedication to sports development, emphasizing that the festival would serve as a platform to engage more youths in sports and reduce social vices.
He assured that all projects were progressing swiftly to ensure timely completion before the festival.
During the inspection, lawmakers assessed various facilities, including the eight-lane Tartan Track, football pitch, swimming pool, and tennis and handball courts at MKO Abiola Stadium.
They also visited the squash and handball courts, weightlifting and powerlifting arena, and indoor sports hall at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja.
