A 2-0 win away to Dannaz Ladies of Lagos on Wednesday further consolidated the Ikenne-based side’s grip on top spot, while Bolaji also got a double dose of personal satisfaction with her eighth goal of the season and player of the match award.
In the aftermath of the midweek matchday six encounter in Lagos, Bolaji, who netted the visitors’ second goal of the evening in the 73rd minute of play, told Sports247 she won the award with the help of God, her teammates and their coach, Wemimo Matthew.
Olamide Bolaji added, “I give God the glory for the award and for the support of my teammates. Also, to my coach, for teaching me to come this far. It’s not my doing. It was made possible through team effort. Our target was to get the three maximum points, and that’s what we did.”
The bulky top striker, who is fondly called ‘Pick 13’ by her colleagues, then turned her attention on the team’s efforts to emerge NWFL champions this season, while also stating gleefully that she and other players in the squad are not feeling any pressure to make their club’s title target become a reality.
“Our slogan for this season helped us to win this match. It’s part of our target for this season, which is Operation Win All Matches. That’s the message of my coach to all of us. The coach also tells us that we should not underrate any team, even as we always plan to win both home and away.
“We want to win the league, but we are not under pressure. Not at all. There’s no pressure in this team. My coach is not giving me any pressure, and my teammates are not giving me any pressure. I am receiving support from God, from my teammates and my coach,” Bolaji concluded.
