Edel FC overcame their struggles in the Nigeria National League (NNL) and battled fiercely for redemption in the semi-final clash against Ozalla Football Academy in the 2025 Neros Pharmaceuticals/ANSFA President Cup.
The NNL side secured a hard-fought 3-1 victo ry on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time at the NEROS Stadium, Nanka.
This result sets up a familiar showdown in the final, as Edel FC will face Solution FC on Sunday, February 23, 2025—just like in the 2024 edition of the competition.
Defending champions, Solution FC, had earlier booked their place in the final on Tuesday with a commanding 4-1 victory over Peace FC.
Wednesday’s semi-final appeared to favor Ozalla FA, especially after Edel FC was reduced to 10 men in the first half.
Despite their numerical advantage, Ozalla FA failed to capitalize, struggling with composure in the final third. Their missed opportunities, including a late chance inside the six-yard box, left spectators in disbelief.
Later in the game, Ozalla FA was also reduced to 10 men after their striker received a second yellow card. Despite their dominance, they couldn’t break down Edel’s resilient defense.
During the penalty shootout, Edel FC had a setback when their second kick was saved by the Ozalla goalkeeper. However, Ozalla FA failed to seize the moment, ultimately falling 3-1 in the shootout.
Edel FC’s head coach, Hamza Abdulazeez Abara, who recently took charge of the team, expressed gratitude for the victory and the chance to contest the final.
“I’m very happy with this win. I thank Almighty Allah for this opportunity to compete in the NEROS/ANSFA Cup final, especially since I just joined the club,” Coach Abara said.
He also praised Ozalla FA’s performance, admitting he was impressed by the Academy side’s quality.
With both NNL teams set to meet again in the final, Edel FC will be eager to avenge their 2024 loss, while Solution FC aims to defend their title in what promises to be an exciting rematch.
