It is only their second year in the NWFL, but Honourable Kunle Soname’s club have maintained a figm grip on top spot for the ongoing season since matchday one, and Coach Wemimo Matthew has enthusiastically admitted that they are title favourites.

Wemimo’s enthusiasm received a further boost after her side’s latest victory, a 2-0 win away to Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in a matchday six fixture on Wednesday, and the amiable gaffer told Sports247 afterwards that she was happy seeing how the game went according to her plan.

The NWFL’s coach of the month for January revealed, “We planned to come here and play a very good game. When you play a good game and you make use of your chances, you will definitely win. We were able to play a good game, and we won. Dannaz also played well, and I respect them a lot, but we were able to overshadow them, and we got the victory.”

With the season now approaching its midway point and many other clubs keeping their eyes on tickets to the Super-6, observers are of a view that Remo Queens could be under pressure, which might cause distractions along the line, but Coach Wemimo countered that assertion, insisting it is not a case with her side.

She retorted, “No pressure at all. We are not under any pressure. The only thing is that, even after a game like this, we still have to plan ahead of the next match. We need to double our efforts and ensure we make our fans proud all the time. We need to always make them happy.”

She concluded with details of the technical and interpersonal skills that have helped her stabilise the club in the spate of two years, and acknowledged that they are already looking good to be crowned winners of the regular season as well as champions of the NWFL Super-6 later on.

“I am a coach, and I picked my players from different places. This is a new team, and this is only our second season, but I am a coach who always knows how to discover a good player. I also know how to develop a very good player. I like to encourage mostly the younger ones. It’s been possible through hard work and the cooperation of my officials, as well as focus from the girls. They are always ready to do it.

“At the same time, when you look at my team, one important thing we do not joke about is discipline. There must be total discipline on the field, outside the field, in their personal life and in all aspects. You have to be a totally disciplined player if you want to play under me. These are the reasons why we’re getting these good results,” Wemimo disclosed.
