South-West Zonal Director of the National Sports Commission, Evelyn Fabunmi, confirmed on Tuesday in Ibadan that the elimination rounds will be held at two designated venues: Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and Ilaji Sports Resort.

She further noted that similar zonal qualifiers will be conducted simultaneously across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, featuring eight ball games: basketball, hockey, cricket, football, handball, volleyball, abula, and beach volleyball.

Speaking at the Osun State Sports Council, the coaching crew for Team Osun expressed confidence in their players’ readiness, highlighting rigorous training sessions aimed at securing qualification. Handball head coach, Joshua Aogo, commended the unwavering support from the Osun State Government, which has been instrumental in fostering sports development.

“We are fully committed to qualifying for this year’s National Sports Festival,” Aogo said. “Governor Ademola Adeleke and his deputy, who also serves as the sports commissioner, have played a key role in revitalizing sports in Osun.

Their encouragement, including rewarding medal-winning athletes, has greatly motivated our players. We are grateful for their backing and hope it continues as we strive to make Osun proud.”

Team Osun is determined to participate in all eight ball games and secure a strong presence at the Gateway Games. With intensive training and government support, the team remains optimistic about delivering an impressive performance at the upcoming qualifiers.
