Enyimba Fans Beg Nwankwo Kanu, As Ndubuisi Agu Tells Nigerian Legend: Please Step Up

Fans of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) former champions, Enyimba of Aba, have sent out a terse message to the side’s chairman, Nwankwo Kanu to revive the team’s fortunes or step down from his exalted position as head of the club’s management committee, sports247.ng reports.

This fiat was fired on behalf of Enyimba’s fans at home and abroad by a businessman, Ndubuisi Agu, who opined that Kanu has not been able to lift EnyimNwankwo Kanuba high mostly because he allegedly travels overseas a lot and is not concentrating on the job at home.

While describing himself as a very concerned supporter of the Aba-based team, Agu added that the former Super Eagles’ captain has not been able to bring into his administrative role all the flair he had as a top player, thereby leaving football fans disappointed in the commercially vibrant city of Aba.

Mr Agu inferred in a strongly worded petition sent to sports247.ng early on Friday that Enyimba’s recent elimination from the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup is a true reflection of their current struggles for form in the domestic league, in which The Peoples’ Elephant are currently placed 8th on the NPFL table.

Agu, who is of a strong view that his darling team has fallen from grace to grass, advised that something drastic has to be done quickly to stem the slide and stated, “Since we made Kanu Nwankwo Enyimba FC chairman, it seems he doesn’t really know why we made him the chairman or his job. Sir, we made you our chairman for you to take us to another level, but the level you are taking us now is what we can’t understand.”

Agu then proffered solutions to the ebb that he believes is currently bedevilling the former back-to-back champions of Africa, paramount of which he suggested should be the resignation of Kanu, who is also a former two-time African Footballer of The Year.

The outspoken Agu added in his petition, “We fans are disappointed. You now stay abroad, while we suffer here. If you can’t do the job, bro, please step down. This is not the Enyimba FC we used to know. Our management adiro mma at all. My chairman, how many times you don even come watch our boys’ games? We are tired of all these! This is Enyimba FC we are talking about, not Agamkpa FC. Please be serious with this job.”

It’s now left to be seen how the government of Abia State, which appointed Kanu as Enyimba’s boss against all expectations midway through last year, as well as the sports council will react to this latest agitation, as many football fans in the highly populated city of Aba in Eastern Nigeria appear to have lost faith in the former Heartland of Owerri, Ajax of Holland, Inter Milan of Italy as well as ex-Arsenal and Portsmouth of England icon.
