Remo Stars of Ikenne continued their dominance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kano Pillars on Saturday.
The win marks their fourth consecutive double since the league entered its second stanza last month.
Having secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg back in September, Remo Stars completed their dominance over Kano Pillars—just as they had done against Akwa United, Abia Warriors, and Sunshine Stars.
With this victory, Remo Stars now sit comfortably atop the league table with 45 points, eight ahead of their closest challengers, Shooting Stars. The Ibadan-based side edged Bendel Insurance 1-0 to reach 40 points but still have an outstanding away fixture against Kwara United that could narrow the gap.
Match Highlights
Remo Stars wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Sikiru Alimi converting Segun Ogunribide’s cross to open the scoring. Ibrahim Abubakar doubled the lead in the 40th minute, capitalizing on a rebound.
Kano Pillars managed to pull one back in first-half stoppage time, with Abba Adam finishing off an Abdullahi cross to register his fifth goal of the season. However, the comeback attempt fell short as Remo Stars held on for the win.
