NWFL 2025: Heartland Queens Seek First Win Against Dannaz Ladies, As Coach Obi Ogbala Parries 4-1 Loss In Ikenne

Dannaz Ladies of Lagos may be in for a mauling when they play away to Heartland Queens of Owerri in their matchday five fixture of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), sports247.ng gathered.

This is sequel to a bold declaration by Heartland Queens’ coach, Obi Ogbala, who affirmed that his players are set to turn around the current situation in which they failed to pick any win in their first four matches of the unfolding campaign.

He stated as much after seeing his lasses implode in a 4-1 loss away to Remo Queens of Ikenne, and they finally fell 4-1, despite initially pulling level in the 34th minute to enter half-time level at 1-1.

Ogbala started by praising his players for their gallant efforts and summed up: “It was a good game, irrespective of the goals. The girls put up a good fight, especially in the first half. However, when we came back in the second half, there were a lot of errors that the opponents capitalised on. All the same, it’s a game, and we have learnt from it. My girls did their best, but the home team are a good side.”

Coach Ogbala then pushed aside any regrets or extensive lamentations from the heavy defeat in Ikenne, as he looked forward with optimism to his team’s first win of the season and pointed out that there is still a long way to go before the final game of the campaign eventually comes up.

He theorised, “It’s a marathon, and we’re still going on with it. Our first win will surely come. I believe a win will soon come. I cannot say it will be today or tomorrow, but what I know for sure is that a win will soon come.”

The soft-spoken tactician concluded by basing his optimism for a turn around of results for his side on lessons picked up from their matchday four heavy defeat by Remo, which he insisted was not a true reflection of the day’s run of play.

“We learnt many lessons from this defeat. We weren’t in control of the ball. We gave away a lot of balls, and that made us to be under pressure. As a result of that, we collapsed. But, after talking to them, at least, they put on a fight and they tried.

“Unfortunately, when goals start to come, you can’t stop them. That made my team look as if they didn’t play well. But, we’ll keep on moving, and we’ll keep on improving. Without saying any particular time, definitely, we are going to smile when winning starts to come. There’s going to be a turnaround soon,” Ogbala enthused.
