Governor Umo Eno Doubles Governor’s Cup Prize Money, Awards N20 Million To Top Teams

The anticipation for rewards was well worth it as Governor Umo Eno, during the ARISE Happy Hour and Evening of Rewards on Thursday night, unexpectedly doubled the cash prizes for the top three teams of the 2023 Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Cup.

Ikot Abasi, Uyo, and Urue Offong Oruko, originally set to receive N5 million, N3 million, and N2 million respectively, had their prizes instantly increased to N10 million, N6 million, and N4 million.

The governor made the announcement on stage, instructing the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, to implement the adjustment immediately.

In the tournament finale, Ikot Abasi triumphed over Uyo in a tense 4-3 penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, while Urue Offong Oruko edged out Essien Udim 1-0 to claim third place.

The competition featured teams from all 31 local government areas and was played across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Governor Umo Eno highlighted that the event, which saw a total of N550 million awarded to individuals and groups excelling in various fields, reinforces his administration’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, food security, excellence, and a culture of healthy competition in Akwa Ibom State.
