Akwa Ibom Wins Big: Governor Eno Accepts Hosting Rights For Inaugural NDDC Sports Festival

Akwa Ibom State has been chosen as the host for the maiden edition of the annual Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Sports Festival, set to take place from April 1st to 8th, 2025.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno officially accepted the hosting rights, marking a major win for the state in regional sports development.

The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by a high-powered NDDC delegation led by its Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to the Government House in Uyo. Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that Akwa Ibom was the unanimous choice due to its serene environment and world-class sporting infrastructure, particularly the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Governor Eno expressed deep gratitude for the honor, highlighting how past and present administrations have worked tirelessly to position Akwa Ibom as a hub for sports and development.

He assured full collaboration with NDDC to ensure the festival’s success, emphasizing its potential to foster unity among Niger Delta states, boost the local economy, and launch new sports talents into the limelight.

“The festival is more than just a competition; it is a platform to celebrate the diversity and unity of the Niger Delta while showcasing our rich pool of sporting talents,” Dr. Ogbuku stated.

With 20 thrilling sporting events planned, the festival is set to be a game-changer for sports development in the region.

Akwa Ibom is gearing up to roll out the red carpet for athletes, officials, and sports lovers, as it prepares to make history as the proud host of the first-ever NDDC Sports Festival.
