The leadership of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN) has commended YouFitBox Boxing Promotion for designing the newly revamped National Title Belt.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos yesterday, BPAN spokesperson Edna Aiyegbeni confirmed that preparations are in full swing for the official unveiling of the championship belt for the super featherweight category.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), is scheduled for February 9, 2025.
“Considering this achievement, I formally request that YouFitBox be recognized by the board as the official producer of the current championship belt,” said Madam Edna, who also owns the Francis Aiyegbeni Boxing Club in Ibadan.
She emphasized that such recognition would not only be a personal honor for UfitBox but also serve as motivation for other stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the growth of boxing in Nigeria.
Echoing her sentiments, former flyweight national champion Akeem Akinade, the founder of YouFitBox Boxing Promotions and designer of the belt, revealed that fighters will compete for the new title during his upcoming boxing event, The New National Title Belt Reborn, slated for February 16 at the Shalom Pack Event Center in Lagos.
Akinade expressed gratitude to BPAN and NBBofC for entrusting him with the project, acknowledging their support as instrumental in bringing the vision to life.
“I am dedicated to supporting the association’s mission, and I see this recognition as a step toward strengthening and advancing boxing in Lagos, Nigeria, and beyond,” he stated.
Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, UfitBox noted that the previous belt had long been due for an upgrade.
“Over time, the old belt lost its appeal and no longer reflected the dynamic and professional image of the association. A modern and aesthetically appealing championship belt was necessary to uphold the organization’s dignity and inspire athletes who strive to earn this symbol of excellence,” he added.
The newly designed belt, he concluded, embodies the rich legacy of the association while signaling a promising future for Nigerian boxing.
