The new board, which includes eight members, is headed by Mr. Chukwuemeka Anthony as acting chairman and Chief Hope Nelson Eselekhomwen as vice chairman.
During their inaugural meeting, the board wasted no time in addressing urgent needs, including the acquisition of office chairs and the establishment of a temporary changing room and office at ADOLOR Rugby Grounds.
A key highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Edo State’s significant achievements in rugby, with both the male and female teams having excelled in national competitions. The state’s rugby facilities, including the only dedicated rugby pitch in Nigeria, are poised for further improvements to make them suitable for hosting national games.
Plans are underway for a new sitting gallery, changing rooms, and more rugby equipment to support the state’s growing youth training programs. The association has already attracted sponsorship from Eyoto Group, which will support the Rugby Schools Tournament alongside its Athletics Championship.
The new board is committed to expanding the state’s rugby footprint, with plans to engage closely with players and stakeholders to foster a strong, united rugby community in Edo State. The goal is to develop world-class players for Nigeria, given the state’s historical strength in power and endurance sports.
