The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, hosted the Assistant National Mini Football Team Coach and Chairman of the Imo State Mini Football Association, Mr. Chigozie Nwagwu, in his Owerri office.
Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Ngozi Duru Victoria.

During the discussions, Hon. Onyeocha expressed strong interest in the growth of mini football in Nigeria, recognizing its increasing popularity across Africa.
Mr. Nwagwu, who was joined by the Association’s Media Manager, Mr. Kennedy Onwunali, and Engr. Ihechi, commended the Commissioner for his efforts in strengthening sports administration in the state.
He emphasized the sport’s rapid expansion in Nigeria and urged the government to support its development in Imo State. He also pointed out that four African nations have already adopted mini football professionally, underscoring its potential for further growth in Nigeria.
In response, Hon. Onyeocha reaffirmed his dedication to advancing sports in the state and encouraged Coach Nwagwu to identify areas for collaboration in promoting mini football.
This meeting represents a crucial step toward incorporating mini football into Imo State’s sports initiatives, with hopes of increasing its visibility and engagement among young talents.
