Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia coach, Christopher Danjuma has fired a warning shot at his team’s rivals this season in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), as he says they will give excellent performances once they settle down in the ongoing campaign.
Speaking against the backdrop of his side’s 1-0 win away to Confluence Queens of Lokoja in their matchday four fixture of the new NWFL season, Danjuma noted that it was a good performance, but hinted that better results lie ahead of his Lafia-based outfit.
Sports247 reports that a 29th-minute goal by Olusola Shobowale was all the Amazons needed to snatch maximum points in Anyangba, thereby taking Danjuma’s delight to another height, but he insists that the best is yet to come, considering that he is still in the process of blending his players into the solid squad he wants them to be.
He then went on to admit that the maximum three points picked away from home against Confluence Queens were very crucial in helping his team return to winning ways and regain their self-confidence, after a recent downturn in fortune.
Danjuma, who also doubles as the handler of Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national team, Falconnets, retorted: “We needed to bounce back, so that we can achieve our aspiration for the season. We needed to bounce back. It’s not an easy ground to come and play, but we needed to bounce back.”
He then spoke about the missing points he wants to build into his squad, and stressed that they will be better than ever once he plugs all holes that he is currently working on.
“Everything is still work in progress. We are still not there, but we are trying to get there in terms of mentality, the domination I need in the game and the force of momentum in every department.
We are trying to get there and, by the time we get there, you’ll see more excellent football than this,” Danjuma promised.
