Bose Odusanya Clinches 10th Straight Title as Matthew Kuti Wins Maiden Senior Crown at Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis Championships

Bose Odusanya extended her dominance at the Molade Okoya-Thomas National Table Tennis Championships, securing her 10th consecutive Women’s Singles title at the 56th edition of Africa’s longest-running table tennis tournament, held over the weekend in Lagos.

 

In the Men’s Singles, national champion Matthew Kuti maintained his unbeaten streak, capturing his first senior title with a commanding 4-1 victory over Kwara’s Abbulbasit Abdulfatai.

 

Despite being the fourth seed, Odusanya delivered an impressive performance to storm into the final, where she overpowered Amina Fashola (NSCDC) 4-1 (8-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8). With this triumph, she became the first player in tournament history to win 10 consecutive titles.

 

Meanwhile, Kuti, the top seed, dazzled spectators, including Ogun State First Lady Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun and former Kwara State First Lady Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sarakin. Though he lost the opening game 7-11, he quickly bounced back to dominate his left-handed opponent, sealing the title with a 4-1 (7-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9) win.

 

A thrilled Odusanya described this victory as her toughest yet, highlighting that this was the first edition of the tournament played as a national event. She also commended her opponent for a well-fought final.

 

Kuti, adding this prestigious title to his growing list of achievements, expressed gratitude to the Okoya-Thomas family for elevating the competition to a national level.
