After a hard-fought contest, Nigeria succumbed to a 1-3 defeat against South Africa, exiting the Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs in Pretoria.
Philip Henning secured South Africa’s victory with a tense 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 win over Nigeria’s Christopher Bulus, sealing their place in the World Group II tie scheduled for September.
Earlier in the day, Nigeria’s hopes took a hit when the doubles pair of Canice Abua and Michael Emmanuel suffered a defeat. With the pressure on Bulus to keep Nigeria’s chances alive, he managed to claim the first set but ultimately fell short against Henning.
This result means Team Nigeria will now return to Africa Group III in the World Cup of Tennis.
