Bayelsa Queens got back on track in the NWFL Premiership with a dominant 5-1 victory over Benue Queens on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, keeping their Super Six qualification hopes alive.

Amblessed Ogbonnaya struck twice, while Chinwe Akabike, Vera Samuel, and Rita Uduakabong were also on target in a ruthless display at the Lafia City Stadium.
Coach Whyte Ogbonda’s side had struggled in their opening two games, winning one and drawing one while managing just a single goal. However, they put those concerns behind them with a clinical attacking performance.
Dominant Display from Bayelsa Queens
Chinwe Akabike opened the scoring in the 17th minute to set the tone for the Prosperity Girls. Three minutes later, Ogbonnaya doubled the lead, and Vera Samuel made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute to put Bayelsa Queens in complete control before halftime.
Shortly after the break, Ogbonnaya struck again to extend the lead to 4-0. Benue Queens pulled one back from the penalty spot, but Rita Uduakabong sealed the win in the 87th minute, putting the game beyond reach.
Despite the emphatic victory, Coach Whyte Ogbonda expressed mixed feelings about his team’s performance.
“I am happy we won the match, but the players did not perform optimally as expected,” Ogbonda said. “We created lots of chances but didn’t utilize many of them.”
He also identified areas that need improvement.
“There are lots of areas we need to fix, like the midfield and central defense. One thing I am promising Bayelsans is that we will not drop any points. We have resolved to improve in all areas,” he added.
Next Challenge for Bayelsa Queens
With this win, Bayelsa Queens gain momentum as they prepare to host Adamawa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
