Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has honored the late Nigerian football legend, Rashidi Yekini, by naming the main bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex after him.
This gesture recognizes Yekini’s extraordinary contributions to football and his enduring legacy as one of Nigeria’s greatest sports icons.

The stadium complex itself has been renamed the Major-General George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, paying homage to the former military governor of Kwara State.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s decision is part of a broader initiative to rename iconic projects across the state in honor of historic figures and contributors to the nation’s development.
Rashidi Yekini, born in Kwara State, remains a celebrated figure in Nigerian football history.
He was the first player to score a World Cup goal for Nigeria during the 1994 tournament in the United States.
His passion, skill, and dedication to the game earned him numerous accolades and the admiration of millions.
Speaking about the renaming, Governor AbdulRazaq stated, “This is a tribute to a true legend whose achievements continue to inspire generations.
Rashidi Yekini brought immense pride to our state and the nation through his incredible football career.”
The renaming ceremony is part of a larger project to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the state’s history, sports, and development.
Other facilities within the stadium complex, including hostels, have also been renamed in honor of notable sports personalities such as Salihu Ishola, Bolaji Eniola, and Bola Esan.
