The resolution, titled “H.R. No. 124/OG/2024 – Urgent Call on the State Government to Consider the Immediate Revival and Operational Take-Off of the State Polytechnic, Ipokia,” was sponsored by Hon. Adebisi Oyedele, representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency. It was seconded by Hon. Damilare Bello and supported by other lawmakers during a plenary presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.

In his motion, Hon. Oyedele highlighted the need to utilize existing infrastructure, including lecture halls, laboratories, and hostels, to kickstart academic activities.

He also advocated for partnerships with international educational organizations and local stakeholders to position the polytechnic as a hub for academic excellence and economic development.

Other lawmakers, including Honourables Wahab Haruna, Waliu Owode, Adeyanju Adegoke, Babatunde Tella, and Musefiu Lamidi, voiced support, emphasizing the potential economic and educational benefits the institution would bring to border communities.

They called for further developmental projects to create business opportunities and foster human capital development in the region.

The lawmakers urged the government to act on the recommendations of a committee led by Prof. S. Awonusi in 2019, which had assessed the polytechnic’s readiness.

In response, the Speaker directed the House Committee on Legislative Compliance to engage relevant MDAs to provide updates on ongoing projects across the state and ensure swift implementation of the resolution.
