The Nigeria U19 Cricket team, making history as the country’s first-ever representatives at a cricket World Cup, received a significant morale boost with the arrival of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, at the ICC T20 U19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia.
The team’s remarkable journey, highlighted by a stunning upset victory over cricket powerhouse New Zealand, has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world and garnered widespread attention. Hon. Olopade’s presence further underscores the NSC’s commitment to fostering growth across all sports in Nigeria.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Hon. Olopade praised the girls for their historic performance and emphasized the importance of support from the commission.
“At the Sports Commission, we want to ensure that every sport gets supported in the best way possible so that they can also grow alongside the commission,” he said. “This is why the NSC, under the Chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko, is paying full attention to all sports.”
The DG acknowledged the excitement their achievements have sparked back home, noting that such enthusiasm is vital for the development of cricket and other so-called “lesser sports” in Nigeria.
The Nigeria U19 Cricket team’s groundbreaking performance continues to be a beacon of inspiration, not just for cricket enthusiasts but for the entire nation, as they strive for greater glory on the global stage.
