Nigeria’s unbeaten WBC Africa light-heavyweight champion, Oluwatosin Kejawa, is set to face Britain’s Lewis Edmondson for the Commonwealth light-heavyweight title on March 1 at the Bournemouth International Centre.
The highly anticipated fight, part of Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions’ Collision on the Coast card, will air live on TNT Sports. This marks Kejawa’s first opportunity to compete for a major title since clinching the WBC Africa belt.
Edmondson, 29, who holds an undefeated record of 10 wins with 3 knockouts, expressed confidence during the press conference.
“He’s a good fighter; I wish him the best,” said the Commonwealth champion. “But with my current form and preparation, I don’t believe anyone can beat me. So, good luck to him.”
In response, the 23-year-old Lagos-born contender, boasting an 11-0 record with 5 knockouts, remained composed.
“He has power, speed, and everything, but let’s wait and see,” Kejawa replied.
The Nigerian boxer shared his excitement on Instagram, posting:
“Starting the year with a great fight opportunity will be fought on the 1st of March at Bournemouth live on TNT for the Commonwealth title. Let gooooo #teamnigeria.”
Kejawa’s last fight, a dominant points victory (60-54) over Adam Cieslak in July at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, marked his return to the ring after a seven-month hiatus due to a hand injury.
“It felt great to be back after so long,” Kejawa told PUNCH Sports Extra. “I could’ve gone for the knockout, but my focus was getting in the rounds to regain full fitness.”
This Commonwealth title bout represents a significant step up in competition for Kejawa, who has steadily risen in the professional ranks, securing five of his victories by knockout.
