The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the Institute of Human Virology (IHV), has reaffirmed its dedication to reducing tuberculosis (TB) prevalence across the state.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, during a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at assessing the progress of TB control initiatives and addressing implementation challenges.
Dr. Ogunsola commended stakeholders for their efforts and urged them to continue leveraging their expertise, sharing experiences, and providing actionable recommendations to enhance TB control measures.
In her presentation, the State Programme Manager for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control, Mrs. Olusola Taiwo, emphasized the government’s commitment to combating TB, acknowledging the progress made so far while highlighting persistent challenges. She called for collective action among stakeholders to overcome these hurdles.
The State Manager of the Institute of Human Virology, Dr. Adeyemi Ajayi, revealed that the agency implemented the Tuberculosis-Local Organising Network 3 (TB-LON 3) project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He noted that involving the Local Health Authority team was crucial to reaching grassroots communities and effectively tackling TB and related diseases.
Speaking on behalf of the Health Secretaries, Dr. Atinuke Duze lauded the efforts of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in fostering a healthier population and environment. She expressed optimism about the state’s ability to significantly reduce TB prevalence and achieve its vision of becoming a TB-free state
