Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna run at the WTT contender in Doha has ended in the Semi final after losing to Tomokazu Harimoto, Sports247 reports.
Aruna lost in three straight sets to the competition number one seeded player on Saturday, thus dashing his hope of winning the first trophy in 2025 by upsetting the books.
The African number one, lost the first set by 11-9 and got worse in the second set, 11-3 and Harimoto closed out the third set with 11-5 win at the Lusail Sports Arena to avenge his earlier defeat in the hands of Aruna in Frankfurt, Germany.
Despite the semi-final exit, Aruna maintained his record as the only male African player to reach the last four of the WTT Star Contender, a feat he first achieved in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Aruna Quadri reached the Semi final by scoring some impressive results en route to the Semi final.
He scored a hard fought 3-1 victory over British champion Liam Pitchford and 3-2 victory over Spain’s Alvaro Robles.
Aruna is expected to be back at the Lusail Sports Arena for the third place game as the competition rounds off on Sunday, 12 January 2025.
