The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)–CGIAR, in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture, is driving agricultural modernization through the Ogun State Farmer Information Management System (OGFIMS) initiative.
Funded by the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) and supported by the World Bank, this initiative leverages technology and data-driven strategies to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.
On December 13, a review retreat workshop marked the successful completion of the digital registration of farmers and Value Chain Actors (VCAs) under the OGFIMS project.
This exercise, led by IITA, is a cornerstone of OGSTEP, designed to enhance support for stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.
From July to November 2023, 70 trained enumerators, divided into four regional teams and supported by 14 supervisors and monitoring officers, digitally registered 160,000 farmers and VCAs.
This large-scale data collection effort utilized advanced survey tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
During the workshop, participants assessed the fieldwork’s outcomes, addressed challenges, and discussed improvements. Dr. Lydia Olufunmilola, the OGFIMS consultant, shared analytical insights from the data collected.
IITA programmers Busayo Ogunya and Tunde Ajayi presented updates to enhance the registration process and improve data accessibility, while Hector Igboko demonstrated the interactive OGFIMS dashboard, which enables real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
Dr. Oluseyi Olugbire, OGSTEP Agricultural Manager, emphasized that the gathered data would enable the design of targeted interventions to link farmers with agrifood value chain actors, enhancing access to inputs, services, finance, and markets.
This effort aims to boost Ogun State’s agribusiness sector and foster sustainable economic growth.
OGFIMS Project Lead, Dr. Lava Kumar, commended the success of the digital registration, highlighting upcoming features such as e-Agroshop, e-Extension, and market information modules, which promise to further benefit users and strengthen the platform.
The workshop concluded with a collective commitment to implementing proposed improvements and advancing the project’s impact.
Through initiatives like OGFIMS, Ogun State and IITA are championing digital transformation in agriculture, improving livelihoods, and driving economic resilience.
