2025 ALL STARS WOMEN FOOTBALL: We’ll Produce New Players For U17 National Team, LOC Chairman Chinedu Moses Ogbonna Promises

New players who can be invited to Nigeria’s under-17 female national team, Flamingos, are set to be discovered at the ongoing 2025 Women All Stars Football Competition in Lagos.

This is the verdict of the competition’s local organising committee chairman, Coach Chinedu Moses Ogbonna, who said in an exclusive interview with sports247.ng that this year’s contest is bound to be greater than others before it.

Coach Chinedu added, now that they are in the 37th edition of the annual contest organised by Nigeria Women Football Club Coaches (ANWFCC), their impact in the discovery of hidden talents will be felt more than ever.

Coach Chinedu further stated, “We are playing the 37th edition, and it has been a very tremendous experience; based on how we have encouraged grassroots players that they are able to achieve more than they think they can.

“This is where all women clubs come to collect players, and many of them have been so lucky to have grown from there and become great footballers.”

The soft-spoken women football tactician, administrator, organiser and promoter then spoke about areas of support that have kept the competition going on an annual basis at the Hockey Pitch of Lagos National Stadium, Surulere.

“We have been able to get support from ex-players, corporate bodies and some individuals that we approached. For the past five years, especially, we have a group of people that we have been approaching, and they always do assist us,” he disclosed.

Coach Chinedu concluded by speaking about the main focus and target that the organisers aim to achieve with the ongoing edition of the highly exciting and popular competition, which draws a motley of female footballers of all ages, sizes and statuses as well as coaches, administrators, scouts and journalists from far flung places.

“This year, we expect that we are going to discover more new talents, especially for the under-17 female national team,” enthused the LOC chairman for this year’s exhibition competition, which distributes a large array of players into teams that feature in the names of various countries of the world.
