Enyimba will continue their resurgence this weekend in the CAF Confederation Cup Win or Burst match against Al Masry FC of Egypt on Sunday, Sports247 reports.
Enyimba’s opponent, Al Masry arrived at Uyo, the venue of the match on Thursday evening, with a mission to escape with at least a point after ninety minutes on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
A situation Enyimba must avoid to keep their hope or qualifying from the group into the quarter final alive.
The Nigerian representative started with not winning their first three games, amassing just a point out of possible nine.
A change of coach and addition of Brown Ideye has brought a spark, they defeated Black Bull 4-1 on Matchday four to relaunch their 2024 Confederation Cup season as results elsewhere brighten their chances of making it out the group.
Though, they are rock bottom on the log in group D, but with just a point behind Al Masry in second and share same point with Black Bull on third.
A win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday will take them above Al Masry, and take their point haul to seven with a game to go.
Any result short of this may mean the end to their ambition of making the final eight of the competition.
The Aba based team have won two of their last three matches since coach Stanley Eguma took over from Yemi Olanrewaju, and they have scored six times, a total break away from their dull attack witnessed in the last month.
A consolidation is all the Aba Elephants needed this weekend as their fans hope for total redemption and trample on Al Masry of Egypt.
Ironically, the other match in the group will be played at the same time in Maputo as Black Bull faces Zamalek of Egypt who need a victory to confirm their place in the next round while Black Bull also needs a victory to push their qualifications to the last day as both teams are on 8 points and 4 points respectively.
The die is cast as all four teams in the group still have a reasonable chance of making it into the next round and this result may give a clearer picture.
Enyimba lost the first against Al Masry 2-0 in Egypt, they may need to beat Al Masry more as the head to head rule may be one of the deciders of who eventually make it out of the group.
