The Aba Elephants, who had endured a barren run of nine league games without a win, last tasted victory on October 27, 2024, when they defeated Ikorodu United 2-1 at home.
However, the drought ended spectacularly at the Enyimba Stadium, thanks to Ideye’s decisive 68th-minute strike that sent the home crowd into raptures.
Enyimba began the match with renewed vigor, with winger Joseph Atule opening the scoring in first-half stoppage time. Nasarawa United’s prolific forward Anas Yusuf, the NPFL’s leading scorer with 11 goals, restored parity in the 58th minute. But Ideye, combining his experience and clinical finishing, delivered the winning goal ten minutes later to seal the three points.
The victory builds on Enyimba’s strong showing in the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend, where both Ideye and Atule were among the scorers in a dominant 4-1 home win over Mozambique’s Black Bulls.
The win propels Enyimba to 7th place on the NPFL standings, with two games in hand before the season’s halfway mark. Their next league challenge is an away fixture against Kwara United on January 16, 2025.
Before that, Enyimba will return to continental action on January 12, hosting Egyptian side Al Masry in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as they continue their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
This resurgence, driven by Ideye and Atule, has reinvigorated hopes for the People’s Elephants as they aim to climb higher in both domestic and continental competitions.
