The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to restart the abandoned 3.65-kilometre Borokiri-Okrika Road and three bridges project, which was initiated in 2012 but stalled for over a decade.
Boma Iyaye, the NDDC’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, revealed this during a stakeholder forum in Port Harcourt.
He stated that the project, which aims to connect Kolabi, Abatoru, Okpoka, and other coastal communities to the Port Harcourt metropolis, has been prioritized in the commission’s 2024 budget under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
According to Iyaye, the completion of this project will reduce travel time, boost local trade, and improve access to essential services for coastal communities.
Contractors are expected to return to the site soon to resume work.
