This partnership is in line with the objectives of the African Youth Promotion Programme of the CAF African School Football Championship initiated under the guidance of the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe. More than 800,000 boys and girls under the age of 15 have already participated in these programmes.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship includes among its main annual activities, a Young Reporters Programme, Young Referees Programme and Safeguarding Programme.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Secretary General of CAF, Véron Mosengo-Omba, and the President of CANAL+ INTERNATIONAL, Jacques Dupuy.
Veron Mosengo-Omba said that the partnership between CAF and CANAL+ around this initiative is a natural transition between two institutions that have long worked to develop football in Africa.
“The introduction of the CAF African Schools Football Championship by our President, Dr. Motsepe, was an important practical intervention by CAF to invest in the lives of young people in Africa and give them hope for the future. The CAF African Schools Football Championship has been a resounding success over the past four years, both on and off the pitch – it has generated a lot of excitement. The partnership between CAF and CANAL+ is an important step for CAF and for the programme. CANAL+ has been investing in African football for many years and will now share its expertise to develop future reporters.”
The President of CANAL+ INTERNATIONAL, Jacques Dupuy, underlined his organization’s commitment to the continent, saying: “This partnership marks an
important milestone in our commitment to African youth. We are delighted to partner with CAF to ensure that this initiative reaches as many young people as possible.”
This collaboration will enhance the Young Reporters workshops held at the CAF African Schools Football Championship, providing a development programme for aspiring young journalists across the continent.
A commitment to social transformation through education and sport
CAF is committed to promoting football as a catalyst for economic and social development and the schools championship aims to harness the values of football to develop and empower young people on the African continent.
CANAL+ UNIVERSITY aims to offer growth opportunities to African youth by making its experience available for their development.
The agreement between CAF and CANAL+ INTERNATIONAL reflects a strong and shared commitment to the future of sports journalism in Africa, promising new opportunities for the continent’s youth.
A broader partnership dynamic between CAF and CANAL+
The partnership is part of a wider investment in African football, with initiatives such as CANAL+’s acquisition of the French-language broadcast rights for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations and the creation of a special CANAL+ CAN channel.
