The Aba Elephants also overcame their shyness in front of goals which has blighted their season so far, and rekindle some hope of making it out of the group.

Reflecting on the performance of his team Vis a Vis the outcome of the game, head coach, Stanley Eguma single out the presence of Brown Ideye in the attack, describing it as huge plus despite not hitting his full fitness.

“Brown Ideye, we all know him as a household name. His presence is a big plus to the team.”

“He might not be fully fit because he just joined the team, but it’s a gradual process. In the near future, he will add more to the team, ” says Eguma.

The coach described the soothing result as a New Year gift to Nigerians and praised the players for their ability to develop a winning mentality despite injuries to key players.

“I’ve been in the continent and I know what it takes to compete here. I spoke with the management and told them a lot needed to be done. Some key players were injured, but it didn’t perturb me. I had to work with the ones available.”

“We had to improvise at the holding midfield position due to injuries, and Daga’s absence. We used Innocent Gabriel, a center-back, and he delivered.”

“Today, we’ve been able to raise the pace and change to a winning mentality.”, said Eguma after the match.

Enyimba now has four points, though still on the bottom of the log in the group but a victory against Al Masry in Uyo in their next match this Sunday, could be the game changer as Zamalek and Black Bullets on 8 points and 4 points respectively will cancel each other out.

The proposition leaves Enyimba destiny in their hand as a win in their last two matches may be enough to see them through to the quarter final of the competition.
