Ezenwa: I’m Motivated To Justify Eagles’ Invitation

Katsina United goalkeeper, Ikechukwu EZenwa is basking in the euphoria of rave reviews trailing his performance in his side’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match against Rivers United of Port Harcourt.

Although Katsina lost away 1-0 in The Garden City, sports247.ng can report that Ezenwa was widely adjudged man of the match, and he says it is another boost to his ambitions.

The former Dolphins of Port Harcourt, Sunshine Stars of Akure and FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi shot-stopper stressed that doing well with Katsina is of an essence for him, in order to justify his invitations to the national team, of which he got another on Monday.

Ezenwa equally pointed out that the presence of several other keepers competing to be number one at Katsina means he has to be on his toes at all time, in order to keep on bringing out the best of his ability.

This season, Katsina United have already used four goalkeepers, with Daouda Kassaly, Yinka David and Danjuma Paul battling for the first choice gloves alongside Ezenwa.

However, out of eight matches, Ezenwa has appeared in four, which may be due to his status as Nigeria’s number two in the senior national team, coupled with his experience at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada and as captain of the silver-winning home-based Eagles at CHAN 2018.

The 30-year-old goalie, who was also in Nigeria’s team to Russia 2018 World Cup, had also been in top form during a 1-1 draw for his club away to Lobi Stars last Sunday, but says he wants to keep working harder.

Ezenwa will now hope to continue in top form next weekend, when the second stanza of the NPFL season begins, then head to the national team’s camp the next day, ahead of games against Seychelles and Egypt.

“I will attribute my good form to hard work and of course God has been helping to show that my invitation to the national team is not a fluke.

“We have good goalkeepers at this club and I have to keep doing well to make sure I get good playing time.

“Very soon, I will be going to the camp now so it is important I keep doing well,” Ezenwa concluded.
