A key female player with Spartans flag football team, Rashidat Koleoso has revealed secrets behind her side’s sensational back-to-back conquest of the Showtime Bowl Series in Lagos.
A 58-53 victory over Warrriors ensured that Koleoso and her colleagues won for a second straight year the competition organised by Showtime Flag Football League (SFFL).
Her team’s feat at Meadow Hall in Lekki area of Lagos State also meant that Spartans got the winners’ cash award of N6m, with N4m going to the second placed Warriors.
While sharing her emotions with sports247.ng after the game, Rashidat Koleoso said her side’s victory was made possible by dint of hard work and through the grace of God.
Koleoso affirmed, “I will say it was because we put in hard work.
“We never expected that we could win this competition again, but we thank God.”
Koleoso went on to explain that she and her colleagues celebrated their victory lavishly because they were happy to have pulled off consecutive cup-winning feats in the competition’s two-year history.
“This victory means a lot to me and my teammates. We won it last season, and we have now done it again. We are super excited,” Koleoso disclosed.
Observers of the final were equally excited that Nigerian players have come of age in the novel sport, which is a variant of American Football.
However, rather than tackle opponents to the ground, each player tries to pluck a flag from the other person’s body in order to score points.
The game is played with an oval ball being tossed from one teammate to another, in order to cross the line of the opposing squad with it and gain more points.
A total of 12 teams contested this year’s edition, which was tagged Showtime Bowl Series XI and was decided through a co-ed format, with seven players of mixed gender on either side.
