ACHIEVERS CUP 2024: Ibe Onwunali Considers Shot At Olympic Games, Following Victory In Brisk Walking Challenge

The last day of activities at Achievers Cup 2024, organised by Island All Stars Sports Club (IASC), brought forth a revelation in Ibe Onwunali, as he went home with a gold medal in brisk walking challenge.

His performance in the unusual endurance event was quite remarkable, and observers concluded that Onwunali should think about representing Nigeria in the Olympic Games’ walk contest.

Onwunali told sports247.ng that he would give it a thought, even as he revealed how excited he was with the achievement he pulled off on Saturday.

He added, “I feel happy. I feel excited that I won the gold medal for brisk walking. It’s a very good moment for me, and I feel excited about it.

“I know it’s an event at the Olympics, but I don’t know if I can go that far. I’ll think about that possibility going forward.

“It will, however, depend on if my job permits me and if I can make out some extra time for it.

“I’ll give it a thought and see what I can do about it. But, for now, I just want to enjoy this happy moment.”

Onwunali then analysed the general quality of the multi-sports competition that was sponsored by Providus Bank and posited that it was a wonderful experience, with various contests that many IASC members could engage in.

“This tournament generally has been wonderful,” he declared.

“It’s not just about football, but it’s multi-sports, among which, by the grace of God, I won brisk walking event.

“We also have other sports like ludo, draught, snooker and a lot of different things.

“It’s an opportunity for every member to partake and be part of the whole process. It also showed us that, if you work hard, you could win a trophy.”

He concluded with a look at the year 2024 in general, and how it turned out to be one filled with success for him.
“It has been a great year for me personally. First and foremost, for life and good health, I give God the glory.
“Secondly, I am grateful for all my achievements uncountable.

“It’s been a very good year for me, and to crown it up with a trophy is a great deal for me.

“I thank God for everything,” Onwunali stressed with a tone of sincere appreciation in his voice.
