The SFCOBA 94Set novelty football match, held on December 6th, 2024, at St. Finbarr’s College field, ended in a commanding 2-0 victory for the Science Class over the Commercial and Art Class team.
While the game was competitive, the Science Class team captain and chairman of SFCOBA 94Set (2022-2024), Ejike Nwabueze, revealed that the scoreline could have been much worse if they hadn’t decided to hold back.
In a lighthearted post-match interview, Nwabueze said, “The scoreline would have been more, but we decided to be friendly.
It’s our anniversary, not a war. Imagine if it ended 10-0; it wouldn’t sound well. So, we played graciously and even rested most of our players to make it fair.”
The match saw the Science Class dominate from the outset. In the first half, ID Cabasa earned a penalty for his team after being brought down in the box.
However, the penalty was missed, keeping the game balanced until Chris scored the opener with an assist from Dr. Thaddeus Ugwueke, Chairman of the Anniversary Committee.
The second half saw Uti deliver a stunning volley to secure the second goal, sealing the victory for the Science Class.
Despite their loss, the Commercial and Art Class team put up a spirited fight, with their captain, Robo, later blaming the absence of key foreign players for their struggles.
Nwabueze closed his comments with humor, saying, “It was a great game. Our brothers in Commercial and Art tried their best, but Science always wins. This was about celebration, not humiliation.”
The match brought laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of unity to the SFCOBA 94Set 30th Anniversary, proving that the spirit of brotherhood trumps competition.
