Gbenga Ogunbote Vows Resilience Despite Derby Defeat To Remo Stars

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has reaffirmed his team’s commitment to turning their fortunes around, especially in challenging away fixtures.

This pledge comes in the wake of the Oluyole Warriors’ 0-2 loss to Remo Stars in Wednesday’s Matchday 14 clash of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

In the high-stakes Southwest Derby, 3SC battled valiantly but fell short due to missed opportunities and lapses in focus. Ogunbote, nicknamed “The Oracle,” reflected on the encounter with a mixture of disappointment and determination.

“It is unfortunate we lost the game,” Ogunbote admitted post-match. “We were looking at getting it right on the road, yet another derby, and we couldn’t get it right. We will keep fighting until we get it right. But the important thing is that the boys gave a good fight.”

The experienced tactician highlighted the team’s wastefulness in front of goal, noting that 3SC could have taken control of the match early on. “Ordinarily, we would have been two goals up in the first half,” he lamented.

A pivotal moment came in the second half when a defensive lapse led to Remo Stars doubling their lead. Ogunbote was candid about the error, saying, “The second goal was uncalled for. We needed not to have conceded that; we had a careless moment there.”

Adding to the team’s woes was their struggle to compete effectively after going a man down. Ogunbote, however, found a silver lining in their resilience. “Even after the second goal, we were determined to fight till the end. Nigerian league is difficult playing with one man short. If we can play this much with one man short, I think when we have a complete team, we should be able to do better.”

Despite the setback, Ogunbote remains optimistic about the Oluyole Warriors’ trajectory and has urged his players to maintain their focus and resolve in the weeks ahead.
