Edo Queens Returns Empty Handed From Morocco 2024 As FC Masar Finish Third At CAF Women’s Champions League

Nigeria’s Edo Queens return home from Morocco 2024 empty handed after losing the third place match to FC Masar in the CAF Women Champions League, Sports247 reports.

Egyptian side, FC Masar finished edged Edo Queens 4-3 on penalties after the tie ended goalless on Friday, 22 November in El Jadida.

The highly tactical, yet entertaining encounter between the two sides who are appearing for the first time at the finals was a true showcase of determination by the debutants, who despite creating a number of goalscoring opportunities, where both denied by quality goalkeeping and defending.

However the consolation for the Queens from Nigeria is the 300 thousand dollars prize money for finishing as a semifinalist in the competition.

On the other hand, FC Masar received the Bronze medal as well as 350 thousand dollars for their effort.

Commenting on the team’s impressive run on debut, FC Masar coach, Admed Radadhan heaped praise on the courageous and fearlessness of his players against some of the best clubs in Africa.

“This is a historic victory for us. We worked hard to get here, and this result shows that we are ready to compete with the best teams in Africa. The team has shown great potential and courage against the best clubs in Africa”, said the coach.

The CAF Women’s Champions League draws to a close on Saturday with hosts AS FAR hoping to reclaim their title when they face the highly determined TP Mazembe in the final.
