Against initial forecasts of a possible clash with South Africa this week, Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons will instead face Thailand in their next match at the 2019 Cyprus International Women’s Cup.
After losing their second match of Group C at the high-profile annual competition, the Falcons will tackle Thailand at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca, Cyprus on Wednesday to determine the seventh placed side at the FIFA Women’s World Cup build-up invitational.
Sports247.ng reports that the Falcons were condemned to play in the event’s classification ranks after falling to Belgium on Monday at Neo GSZ Stadium, which is also in Larnaca.
Belgium, who are ranked higher than the African champions, at 21st position, compared to the Falcons 39th, got the game’s only goal after just seven minutes through Elena Dhont.
The Nigerians were lucky not to concede more goals, while the second half entrees of Ngozi Ebere, Chinaza Uchendu, Alice Ogebe and Anam Imo could not salvage the game for the Falcons.
