Glory Ogbonna delivered a stellar performance as Beşiktaş Women ended Fenerbahçe’s 8-match unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win in a keenly contested Istanbul derby.
Two first half goals from Shameeka Fishley and Donjeta Halilaj was all the Dişi Kartallar needed to secure their fifth consecutive win.
Playing away from home in the Turkish Women’s football league, the Super Falcons defender who has now featured in all nine matches this season, led her team with commanding tackles, timely interceptions, and inspirational leadership.
Ogbonna’s crucial block in the last ten minutes of the game denied Fenerbahçe a clear chance at goal preserving Beşiktaş’s 2-0 lead.
“This win means everything. It’s about belief and teamwork,” Ogbonna said moment after the final whistle.
The game also saw Ogbonna face-off against her compatriot, Regina Otu in thrilling Nigerian showdown.
Despite Fenerbahçe’s loss, they still remain top of the table with 24 points while Besiktas are fourth with 19 points.
