The Center for Peace, Environmental and Justice (CEPEJ) has announced the dates for Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup tournament, scheduled to take place from November 17th to December 8th.
This exciting event aims to foster peace and unity among the six ethnic groups in Delta State.
The tournament will kick off with a novelty match at the FIFA Goal Project in Ode-Itsekiri (Big Warri) on November 17th at 12 noon. The match will feature two teams, each comprising representatives from the six ethnic groups. Team A will consist of Izon and Itsekiri, while Team B will comprise Urhobo, Isoko, Ndokwa, and Ika.
According to Comrade Sheriff Molade, President of CEPEJ and Sponsor of the Organising Peace and unity Cup, “The importance of peace and unity in a community or society cannot be overemphasized.” He noted that Delta State has enjoyed peace and unity, free from communal crises, and that events like the peace and unity Cup help to sustain this harmony.
To prepare for the tournament, each ethnic group has been assigned designated fields for build-up games. These games will take place across Delta State, leading up to the tournament’s kickoff on November 17th.
By promoting unity and peaceful coexistence through sports, CEPEJ is making a positive impact in Delta State with the 5th edition of the Delta state ethnic peace and unity programmes .
