Lagos State Celebrates And Rewards Young Athletes For National Youth Games Success

Lagos State has honored its remarkable athletes following their stellar performance at the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba, with a special reward ceremony that showcased the state’s dedication to supporting young talent.

Team Lagos, which excelled at the event by securing 26 gold, 20 silver, and 19 bronze medals, was recognized not just for their achievements, but for their hard work and dedication to sports.

The award ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos State House in Ikeja, was graced by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The event celebrated the athletes’ efforts and highlighted the state’s commitment to sports development. Gold medalists received N200,000 each, while silver and bronze medalists took home N150,000 and N100,000 respectively. Coaches were also rewarded, with each receiving N100,000, and all participating athletes were given N50,000.

This initiative is a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision for youth development and sports excellence in Lagos.

The state’s commitment goes beyond just celebrating achievements; it is an investment in the future of these young athletes, providing them with the motivation and resources to continue their pursuit of greatness.

Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, highlighted that this reward system underscores the importance of nurturing young talents and ensuring that they are equipped to succeed in both local and international arenas.

The monetary rewards are not only a recognition of the athletes’ outstanding performance but also an incentive for future excellence.
