Edo Queens conquest to make history continues today in the CAF Women Champions League as they face surprise package, Massar FC of Egypt, Sports247 reports.
Edo Queens needs to overcome FC Masar to put themselves in a good stead to book a semi final place.
The same position FC Massar finds themselves after causing the biggest upset in the history of the tournament with their shock 1-0 win over reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies last Sunday.
Edo Queens Coach, Moses Aduku understands that defeating FC Massar who are high in confidence going into the second game won’t come easy but has a solution to neutralise the potency of the Egyptian side.
“Them defeating the champions has certainly given them confidence, but we are not here to undermine any team.”
” What I have told my team is that every team that is here are potential champions and we have to play every game like it is a cup final” Aduku told CAF media ahead of the must win match.
This is the second meeting between Nigerian clubs and Egyptian clubs at the finals, the only previous such meeting saw Bayelsa Queens win 3-0 against Wadi Degla in their final group game in 2022.
However, teams from Nigeria have faced off against teams from North Africa three times at the finals – with Nigeria teams lossing on two occasions.
The kick off is 6 pm local time.
In the other group match of the day, it’s going to be a game of redemption as defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns takes on CBE of Ethiopia by 4 pm as both sides battle for survival in the group.
