The inaugural event, held in June 2023, brought together athletic clubs from across Nigeria, showcasing an impressive array of talent and competition.

Teams from Lagos and Ogun States claimed the top three positions, with Agroterra Athletics Academy emerging as champions and taking home a cash prize of N1,000,000. Udo-Obong Athletics Club Academy placed second, earning N600,000, while Eagle Sight Academy clinched third with N400,000.

At the awards ceremony, LSAA Chairman Dr. Solomon Alao highlighted the association’s dedication to nurturing young athletic talent.

“Over 70 scholarships were awarded through the Deji Tinubu Athletics Classics,” Dr. Alao announced, noting that these scholarships serve to support aspiring athletes in their educational and athletic pursuits.

He also shared insights into the association’s strategy for 2025, which includes the much-anticipated second edition of the Deji Tinubu/Lagos Club Athletics Series.

According to Dr. Alao, the association’s newly formed technical department, led by experienced coaches and administrators, will ensure a more refined and competitive experience for all participants.

“We have collaborated with Ogun State pretty closely over the past years, running competitions back-to-back,” he remarked. “We are pleased with the progress made so far, and there’s much more ahead.”

LSAA Vice Chairman, Mrs. Yemisi Tinubu, echoed this excitement, emphasizing the association’s commitment to celebrating talent and fostering competition.

“Next year’s edition will be bigger and better. We don’t do small measures in Lagos State because of the legacy we are honoring. The late Deji Tinubu was passionate about talent development and championing athletes across various sports,” she stated.

In closing, Mrs. Tinubu applauded Dr. Alao for his support and vision, expressing confidence that the LSAA’s programs will continue to inspire and elevate Nigerian athletics.
