Head Coach of the Flamingos, Bankole Olowookere is optimistic about the Flamingos’ chances against Ecuador in their upcoming match at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Following their impressive opening victory over New Zealand, Olowookere emphasized the importance of focusing on each match, stating, “Our tournament strategy is to take it one match at a time.”
He acknowledged Ecuador’s potential, noting their strong performance against the host nation, showcasing they should not be underestimated despite being debutants.
“The Ecuadorians have shown, with their defeat of the host nation, that they may be debutants but not a team to be taken for granted.”He pointed out.

The Flamingos currently sit atop Group A after their initial success, thanks to standout performances from key players like Shakirat Moshood, Taiwo Adegoke, Faridat Abdulwahab, and captain Taiwo Afolabi, who was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts.
Olowookere highlighted that the players have recovered well from their opening match and are ready to face Ecuador, adding, “Three points in that game will all but get us into the knockout stage. It is an opportunity we will not allow to slip out of our hands.”
Forward Harmony Chidi, the top scorer in the qualifying campaign with 13 goals, is eager to make her mark after being closely marked in the previous match.
The match is scheduled for Saturday at 4 PM local time (9 PM Nigeria) at CFC Stadium, where the Flamingos previously triumphed over New Zealand.
