2025 AFCON: Past Winners Egypt, Cameroon, Six Others Pick Ticket As Nigeria Wait On CAF

Past winners Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Algeria and four other countries have booked their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, (2025 AFCON) after the conclusion of match day 4 in the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Tuesday, Sports247 reports.

According to information on the Confederation of Africa,( CAF) official X eight countries have officially qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco.

Congo, Angola, Burkina Faso and hosts Morocco also booked their ticket in Africa’s biggest football fiesta.

Congo defeated Tanzania 2-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, while Angola secured a 1-0 victory over Niger Republic. Egypt triumphed 1-0 against Mauritania, and Senegal also claimed a 1-0 win over Malawi to confirm their place in the prestigious tournament.

These teams will now join Cameroon, Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Morocco, who confirmed their places after perfect runs in the qualifiers, amassing unassailable 12 points in four games .

Meanwhile, Nigeria and Cote d’ivoire, the finalist and the defending at the last edition have to wait till the next round of matches which will come in November 2024 to book their place in the competition.

Nigeria is one of the teams fancied to pick a ticket after Matchday four but the aborted game against Libya means Nigeria remained on 7 points while awaiting CAF decision on the boycott of Libya/Nigeria encounter by Nigeria due to inhuman treatment at the Abraq Airport Libya where the team were denied access to accomodation, water or food for twenty hours.

CAF has referred the matter to the disciplinary committee after delisting the match on schedule on Matchday 4.

Cote d’ivoire on the hand lost their matchday four encounter 1-0 against West Africa neighbour, Sierra Leone which delayed their AFCON till next Matchday, due for November.

Morocco will host 24 teams from December 2025 to January 2026.
