Leading the team are established stars like Quadri Aruna, Olajide Omotayo, Ajoke Ojomu, and Fatimo Bello, while rising stars Matthew Kuti, Muiz Adegoke, Abdulbasit Abdulfatai, Aishat Rabiu, Hope Udoaka, and Aziza Sezuo will be making their mark.

Kuti, the West Africa champion, is set for his second appearance at the African Championships after making his senior debut at the 2023 African Games.

Adegoke and Abdulfatai, who led Nigeria’s men’s team to victory at the 2024 West Africa Regional Championships, will make their African Championships debut alongside Udoaka, Rabiu, and Sezuo.

NTTF Vice President Adesoji Tayo emphasized the importance of giving young players international exposure.

“We are excited to see these junior players coming through. This tournament provides a valuable opportunity for them to gain experience, learn from established stars like Aruna and Omotayo, and test themselves against Africa’s best,” Tayo said.

He added that while expectations are tempered, the experience gained will be crucial for their development.

The Ethiopian Table Tennis Federation (ETTF) is equally excited, with President Tesfaye Bizane promising a blend of sports and culture for participants and visitors.

“This tournament offers a unique chance to showcase Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage and history,” Bizane stated.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s attractions, including the National Museum and the chance to experience the birthplace of coffee, ensuring the event will offer more than just world-class table tennis.
