The Club will organize the 2024 Sapphire International Day of the Girl Child on October 12, 2024, at the Albati Barracks Stadium, Ojuelegba, Lagos.

This year’s theme, “Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders through Sports”, emphasizes the importance of using sports as a tool for female empowerment and leadership.

The event will bring together notable figures, including former Nigeria internationals, sports administrators, and members of the public, to inspire the next generation of female leaders.

Activities lined up include a seminar, mentorship sessions, leadership training, and a football competition featuring twelve teams. Scouting efforts will also be underway, with the goal of identifying at least 20 young players for the Nigeria Women Football League system.

The program will directly impact around 300 girls aged 12 to 16, with special educational support such as books, uniforms, and study materials provided to at least 100 participants.

Furthermore, the event aims to offer opportunities to talented girls, advancing their dreams in sports while helping alleviate broader societal issues such as gender-based violence and human trafficking.

Sapphire Nigeria Women’s Football Supporters Club hopes to double last year’s attendance of 400 spectators, with sponsors like Unilever and UAC Foods supporting the initiative. Medical professionals will also be present to speak on preventive healthcare, including a gynecologist, dentist, and other doctors.

“We believe sports can transform the lives of young girls and help them rise above the societal challenges they face,” said the Club’s facilitator. “Through this initiative, we aim to empower these girls and provide them with tools to succeed both on and off the field.”
