Philip Nongu Defends Agagbe’s Dismissal, Urges Fans to Support Amokachi

In a significant move aimed at addressing Lobi Stars FC’s recent decline in form, Dr. Philip Nongu, Chairman of Lobi Stars, has defended the decision to relieve Coach Eugene Agagbe of his duties, citing the team’s poor performance.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi, Dr. Nongu explained that Agagbe had been given a mandate to win five matches but failed to deliver, prompting the need for a managerial change.

“The Board gave him a clear target, but he couldn’t deliver,” Nongu stressed, emphasizing that the club’s deteriorating performance could not be ignored.

He noted that while some believed Agagbe should have been given more time, the Board had to prioritize the team’s future.

The appointment of Daniel Amokachi, former Super Eagles coach, as Agagbe’s replacement was defended by the chairman, who expressed confidence in Amokachi’s ability to reverse the club’s fortunes.

“Amokachi is an ex-international with a wealth of experience. He comes at a crucial time, and we believe he won’t disappoint,” Dr. Nongu stated, urging fans to rally behind the new coach.

Dr. Nongu also reminded the fans that Lobi Stars is a source of pride for the Benue community, calling for collective support to restore the club to its former glory.

He emphasized Amokachi’s connection to the region, referring to him as a “son of the soil” who has stepped in to help when his home team needed him most.

Fans of the club are now looking forward to seeing how Amokachi will tackle this new challenge as he aims to bring Lobi Stars back to winning ways.
